Fiat is increasing the number of vans in its Ducato range that will use the new Comfort-Matic six-speed robotised gearbox.
Already a feature used in combination with the top-of-the-range 180 MultiJet Power engine, the gearbox is now being issued in conjunction with the 130 and 150 MultiJet II engines.
Fiat says this device combines this simplicity, performance and potential fuel economy found with manual gearboxes with the practicality and comfort of an automatic transmission.
"The new gearbox meets the demands of all those customers interested in the specific features of automatic transmissions, and increases the new Ducato's already consolidated values of flexibility and versatility," Fiat states.
Drivers can choose one of five modes to suit their driving needs, resulting in a transmission that reacts to use the accelerator pedal and makes suitable adjustments.
Fiat also suggests that the new Fiat Ducato Comfort-Matic offers lower weight, greater fuel economy, improved energy efficiency and also a significant reduction in maintenance and repair costs.
